The public’s confidence in the competence and ethics of corporate management has been shattered over the past few years. In response, several legislative reforms have been passed and more are likely. These legislative reforms cover a broad set of aims from pushing executives to be more diligent and transparent in preparing and reporting financial information to forcing banks to hold more capital and improve their risk management processes. The reforms are also attempting to force compensation reform and make non-executive boards more aware of their responsibilities and the consequences of failure.
